Fear of failure is something that plagues us all at some point or another. When we fail, we tend to get discouraged and give up. The good thing is, God has given us 18 verses in His Word that can help us overcome our fear of failing.
When we face challenges in life, we often become fearful. This is because we don’t want to fail. We want to succeed, but sometimes we don’t know how to go about it. If you are facing a challenge, these verses from the Bible can help you overcome your fears.
1. Timothy 1:7
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”
Fear can prevent us from achieving incredible things. This is why God provides us with great power, love, and self-discipline. With these, we are able to overcome such fear.
2. Romans 3:23-24
“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.”
As Christians, we must accept the fact that we are not perfect. We all exist in sin and make mistakes. However, through Jesus Christ’s great sacrifice, we are able to rectify our mistakes and be forgiven for our sins.
3. Philippians 4:13
“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.”
If you’re experiencing feelings of fear or anxiety, this is a wonderful verse to keep in mind. Regardless of how difficult things may seem and no matter how many times you might fail, everything is possible with the strength and power of God.
4. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God has a plan for absolutely everyone in the world and that plan is to steer them on a righteous path. Even if you feel lost or despondent, remember that you are still a part of God’s plan and are also on that same righteous path that He has set out for you.
5. Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
Fear is an emotion that can easily consume your mind and cause you to lose focus of your faithfulness and devotion to God. However, if you focus instead on the words of Jesus Christ and work to understand his teachings, your focus will realign.
6. Corinthians 4:16
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
Again, this passage tells us that, regardless of how many times we might fail, God’s power allows us to continue and improve every day. God renews your heart and your soul every time you fail, so there is no point in giving up!
7. Romans 5:3-4
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
Similarly, perseverance is the only thing that allows us to use God’s power to overcome fear in our lives. By glorifying in your sufferings, you will build your character and strengthen your connection with God.
8. Corinthians 12:9-10
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, to that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Weaknesses are something that we all live with, whether we like it or not. If you focus only on your weaknesses, you allow fear to consume your mind and soul. However, if you instead focus on Christ’s power, you can use these weaknesses to become stronger.
9. Lamentations 3:22-23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
It doesn’t matter how many times you fail at something, God is able to renew your soul and allow you to wake up every morning with a fresh perspective. It’s important to use this new perspective every day in the face of fear.
10. Philippians 3:13-14
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called heavenward in Jesus Christ.”
There is no point in focusing on the past because these actions can’t be changed. Instead, press forwards and focus on the future, which is made bright by God and His Son.
11. Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”
Oftentimes, the human mind is incapable of overcoming fear on its own. That’s why we must take strength from God to help us through difficult times.
12. Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God”.
Communicating with God through prayer is the best way to overcome fear and anxiety. He should be your first port of call through any trying times.
13. Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Again, the human mind is flawed and can not always make sense of our emotions and the world around us. Instead, it’s better to trust in God’s wisdom and follow his road to glory.
14. James 1:2-4
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
As we all know, God tests our faith at times in our lives and each test strengthens our bond with Him. Take joy from fear and remember that you will come out the other side a better person because of it.
15. Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”
It’s easy to feel isolated when we are afraid. However, it’s important to remember that God is always with us and using His immense power to help us through fearful times.
16. Proverbs 29:25
“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe”
Fear is often a stumbling block in many peoples’ lives, and it throws the unfaithful off course. If you trust in God to get you through fearful times, everything will be alright.
17. Philippians 1:6
“…being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”
God created all humans for a purpose and by maintaining your faith and continuing through life, you are fulfilling His purpose and doing a great job!
18. Proverbs 24:16
“…for though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes.”
Again, no matter how many times you fail at something, God rebuilds your character to allow you to try again. Without faith in Him, many people lose hope, but you’re special!
